Rewind to the mid-'90s, a time when the English Premier League was asserting its dominance, attracting some of the brightest stars in world football. Blackburn Rovers, under the management of Kenny Dalglish, were revelling in the success of the 1994-95 season, having secured the league title. The Rovers, as Blackburn are affectionately known, were on the cusp of etching their name in the annals of football history.

Amid the euphoria of their triumph, the club had the chance to add another jewel to their crown – Zinedine Zidane. The French midfielder, who would later become a maestro on the grandest stages, was still a relatively unknown talent plying his trade at Girondins de Bordeaux. Blackburn's interest in Zidane was genuine, and talks were underway to bring him to Ewood Park.
