A HEAVY METAL FOOTBALLER

A ROCK AND ROLL LIFE WITH AN UNTIMELY END

In the dazzling world of football, where tactics dance like specters on the field, a metaphorical symphony unfolds. Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's high-energy conductor, once likened his style to heavy metal, but he wasn’t the first to make this comparison between footballing style and the popular musical genre.

Dubois, a former Victoriano Arenas and Deportivo Paraguay player, defied the conventional norms that often define footballers. Nestled in the lower tiers of Argentina’s Primera D Metropolitana, Dario Dubois emerged as an unconventional virtuoso. His priorities were unique—morality over financial gains, the sheer joy of the game over the allure of fame.

👹 The Metal Makeover: Dubois, more than just a footballer, was a spectacle on the field. With a full makeup bag of mascara and ghoulish white face paint, he looked like a lead performer in a Kiss metal tribute band. Weekly rallies against Dubois were commonplace, sparked by concerns from spectators about his appearance possibly scaring children. However, in a twist of irony, the opposition often found themselves more fearful. As the saying went, when facing Dubois, “strikers turned to stone.”

💄 Defiance in the Face of Ban: When the Argentinian Football Federation attempted to curb his expressive appearance by banning him from wearing makeup and face paint, Dubois stood defiant. Instead of bowing to the restrictions, he found ingenious ways to retain his individuality. Heavy metal band t-shirts proudly adorned his torso underneath the club jersey, and studded wrist cuffs became a symbol of his unyielding spirit. These acts of rebellion not only defined Dubois but fuelled the mystique surrounding him.
